The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the civil concrete works for the Australian War Memorial at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, a significant project commemorating the enduring relationship between Australia and New Zealand and our shared ANZAC history.
Although much of the completed work is concealed beneath the finished landscape, the project involved the placement of more than 300m³ of concrete, including a 500mm thick reinforced raft slab supporting the memorial's 15 sandstone columns. Additional works included a fibre-reinforced concrete wearing slab, seven tree pits for established eucalyptus trees, and approximately 80 concrete plinths of varying heights designed to support the memorial's sandstone elements, paving, and stair structures.
Delivered under a demanding programme ahead of the ANZAC Day commemorations, the project required exceptional planning and execution to ensure the memorial was completed to the highest standards and ready for official ceremonies and international visitors.
