The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the concrete and reinforcing package for the seismic strengthening of Colonial House, a significant commercial building upgrade designed to improve the structure's long-term resilience and performance.
Our scope included the construction of substantial reinforced concrete foundation pads totalling approximately 300m³, replacing the existing foundations and providing support for a new seismic strengthening system incorporating steel K-frames between the existing in-situ concrete columns. Additional works included the installation of 450mm deep in-situ concrete collector beams throughout the upper levels of the building, tied together with heavy H40 reinforcing bars to create a robust load-transfer system.
The project required careful integration of new structural elements within the existing building while maintaining strict quality and engineering requirements associated with seismic strengthening works.
