The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the concrete construction works for the seismic strengthening of Grand Arcade, a prominent heritage commercial building in Wellington's CBD. The project involved significant structural strengthening works designed to improve the building's seismic performance while preserving its heritage character and continued commercial use. Our scope included reinforced concrete construction, in-situ concrete structural elements, specialist formwork, and the integration of new strengthening systems within the existing structure.
Undertaken within a constrained inner-city environment, the project required careful planning and sequencing to install new structural components while working around the existing building fabric. The completed upgrade extended the life of the building and enhanced its resilience to meet modern seismic performance expectations.
