The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the civil concrete works for the Lower Hutt ANZAC Memorial Upgrade, a significant community project completed ahead of the Gallipoli centenary commemorations.
Our scope included the construction of new concrete wearing slabs, steps, retaining walls, and associated public space improvements throughout the memorial precinct. A key feature of the project was the relocation of the 15-tonne cenotaph, which was carefully moved and re-orientated to create a more prominent civic setting. Wallace then constructed the reinforced concrete foundation works and surrounding stepped structures that integrated the monument seamlessly into its new location.
Delivered within a demanding programme, the project required careful coordination and precision to ensure the upgraded memorial was completed in time for commemorative events while preserving the significance and heritage of the site.
