The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the concrete construction works for Montreaux Apartments, a 15-storey residential development comprising 109 apartments in the heart of Wellington.
Constructed on a challenging inner-city site, the building extended four levels below The Terrace entrance and required substantial basement construction and retaining structures. A key feature of the project was the manufacture and installation of large 30-tonne precast concrete panels, which were cast on site within the basement areas before being erected as part of the building structure.
The development incorporated a substantial 400mm thick reinforced concrete core shear wall system, providing the primary structural stability and seismic resistance for the tower. The combination of deep basement construction, heavy precast elements, and high-rise concrete construction required careful planning and execution throughout the project.
