The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the formwork and concrete construction works for the new pedestrian subway beneath the railway lines at Paraparaumu Railway Station.
The project formed part of the wider upgrade and double-tracking of the Wellington to Waikanae rail corridor, improving safety and accessibility for rail passengers. Our scope included the construction of reinforced concrete ramps, stairs, in-situ walls, soffits, and associated structural elements required for the subway connection beneath the rail network.
A key challenge of the project was delivering the works within an operational transport environment while maintaining safe access for commuters using the station throughout construction. Careful planning, staging, and coordination were required to successfully complete the project alongside ongoing rail infrastructure upgrades.
