The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered specialist concrete construction works for the Stage 2 extension of the Silverstream Landfill, a major infrastructure project that created a new landfill cell with a capacity of approximately 9 million cubic metres and depths reaching 60 metres.
Our scope focused on stabilisation of the landfill face and included the construction of a 9-metre-high concrete wall filter system beneath a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner. The works incorporated approximately 550m³ of no-fines concrete across a face area of around 2,600m², providing a robust and durable solution for landfill stabilisation and drainage management.
The project also included the design and manufacture of two specialist steel formwork systems developed to facilitate ongoing stabilisation works as the landfill expanded. The combination of geotechnical, environmental, and construction challenges required innovative thinking and careful execution throughout the project.
