The Brief
Wallace Building Contractors delivered the concrete works for a new apartment building within the Whitby Lakes Retirement Village development. Constructed on a challenging hillside site, the building was partially embedded into the surrounding terrain and required substantial anchor beam construction to support the basement car park structure. The reinforced concrete design incorporated eight full-height shear walls providing the primary lateral load-resisting system, together with Interspan floor ribs and in-situ concrete balconies throughout the building. The project required careful planning and execution to manage the complexities of the sloping site while achieving the structural and architectural requirements of the development.
